His expertise with a gun and behind the wheel caught my attention in “The Transporter” (2002), which lead me to the rest of the trilogy along with “Death Race” (2008) and both “Cranks.” Only in my friendless boredom could I possibly have watched and enjoyed all of these movies, because in retrospect their scripts were bland excuses aimed at producing as much bloodshed, gunfire, and adrenaline (quite literally, in the case of “Crank”) as possible. As a middle schooler filled with typical angst and frustration, I absolutely adored Jason Statham.
